A young woman ventures into the woods near a tavern and is confronted by a ghostly figure seeking Xena. She finds Xena in the tavern and when the warrior princess goes to investigate, she discovers the ghost is Marcus, her old flame. Things are not well in the underworld, so Xena sets out to put things right. |

Xena reaches the underworld where she meets Marcus who tells her that the order of things have gone to pot since Hades' helmet of invisibility has been stolen. Xena sees all the barbarians in the elysian fields and all the ones who are meant to be there are in tartarus (hell). Xena meets the madman, Atyminius, who has stolen the helmet. |

A fight breaks out in the elysian fields when Atyminius realizes that Xena is still in fact alive and that she has come to stop him and return Hades' helmet. Xena pays a visit to Hades, after wrangling with his harpies, and tells him the only way she can stop Atyminius is if she and Marcus are sent back to the land of the living. |

As it turns out Xena intended for Atyminius to hear the plan and when he goes to slaughter the young bride, Xena is waiting for him and promptly kills him. Upon returning to the underworld and fending off Hades' harpies, Xena attempts to double cross Hades in exchange for Marcus' life. Eventually she relents and settles for Marcus having a place in the elysian fields. |
