Xena buries her armour before heading into battle. She is confronted by an army of samurai and manages to defeat a vast number of them, before letting herself be killed by one. Gabrielle returns from the battle to find Xena's bloodied chakram and no sign of her friend.

Xena becomes one of the Geisha at the bath house where she is quickly confronted by Yodoshi. It's not long before Gabrielle discovers where Xena is and, after hugging her friend, tries to give her the chakram back. When it passes through Xena's hands, she is forced to explain to Gabrielle that she's dead.

Gabrielle takes Akemi's advice and gets a tattoo of protection against Yodoshi. Following the tattoo, Gabrielle sets off to recover Xena's body having learned that if she can scatter Xena's ashes in a spring on Mount Fuji before sundown, the Warrior Princess will be resurrected. Heading to the samurai camp, Gabrielle finds the decapitated remains of Xena's body. (GRUSOME SCENES)

After a failed attempt to ambush Yodoshi, Xena and Gabrielle head to Mount Fuji in search of the spring in which to put Xena's ashes. Gabrielle is confronted by the samurai who killed Xena and, in the fight that breaks out between the two, she loses grip of Xena's urn, sending it over the edge of the cliff and into a bird's nest.

Arriving at the summit, Xena is confronted by Yodoshi who knocks her to the ground just as the water spring begins to fill. Gabrielle abandons her quest to retrieve Xena's urn and goes to aid her friend, taking water into her mouth to revive Xena. The battle continues between Xena and Yodoshi as Gabrielle desperately attempts to retrieve the urn.

Gabrielle, having got the urn, rushes to the top of the mountain but is stopped short by the samurai again. This time she doesn't hesitate to kill him and uses Xena's chakram for the deed. Upon arriving at the mountaintop, Xena stops Gabrielle resurrecting her and the Warrior Princess's ghost fades away. Gabrielle takes the ashes and embarks on a new adventure alone...
